When “Where Is It?” Becomes a Daily Problem
In complex operational environments, lost inventory isn’t just frustrating—it’s expensive. For Twin MRO, tracking parts within their facility had become an ongoing challenge. Parts placed around the facility can be difficult to locate, sometimes going missing entirely – whether misplaced or moved without documentation.
The negative impact on the company was clear:
- Countless hours wasted searching for parts
- Significant delays in company workflows
- Reduced confidence in inventory status
They needed a better way to answer a simple but critical question:
“Where is it – right now?”
Building a Smarter System with RFID
To solve this dilemma, Twin MRO partnered with Triple Helix Corporation to design and implement a custom RFID-based tracking system for their facility.
At the core of the solution is RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) – the same underlying concept that powers many contactless payment systems across the country, found in grocery shops, gas stations, retail stores, and more.
How It Works in Practice

Inside Twin MRO’s various areas of the facility, the system is designed to scan and interpret the physical space in real time:
- A central RFID reader is mounted overhead connected to several UHF antennas
- These UHF antennas extend outward, covering the entire room and send a ‘pulse’
- RFID tagged items respond to the pulse and emit signals that are captured back by the same UHF antennas
- The software reads the strength of the signal received, along with which antennas received the signal, and triangulates the item in physical space.
The result is a live environment where users can simply search for a part and instantly identify its position. How cool is that?
From Static Inventory to Real-Time Visibility
What makes this system especially powerful is its ability to track movements, not just location.
Items pass through designated RFID ‘transition’ readers which the system detects which tag has moved and can even identify the direction of travel – providing constant updates to the database in real-time.
This creates a dynamic “last known location” model – giving teams a clear starting point instead of searching blindly.
Immediate Impact
Even in its initial phases, the results are already obvious, and very meaningful:
- Increased inventory visibility
- Faster retrieval of parts
- Reduced time spent searching
- Greater operational confidence
Instead of relying on memory or manual tracking, teams can now know at a glance where something is – or at least where it was last seen.
A Collaborative Approach to Problem-Solving
This project represents more than just a technical implementation – it’s a collaboration built on understanding real-world challenges and designing around them.
By working closely with Twin MRO’s team, Triple Helix was able to translate a common operational frustration into a practical, high-impact solution.
Lost inventory costs more than money – it disrupts workflows, delays progress, and creates unnecessary friction across teams.
If your team is still relying on manual processes – or spending valuable time tracking down missing items – there may be a better way to approach it.
The right solution isn’t always off-the-shelf. Sometimes, it just needs to be built around how your business actually operates. And that’s exactly what we do for you here at Triple Helix Corporation.
